THURSDAY'S THIEVES
Have you stole? Has someone stole something from you?!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been at college for 4 years
now, and over that time the list of stupid things i have done has become
very long. Although i don't ever really steal anything of great value
or for that mater anything at all. I have however "Liberated" 12 fire
extinguishers during my college career.
For the first 3 years of college i lived on the south side of campus,
the bars were on the North side of campus. I went out allot back then,
usually 5 nights a week, and proceeded to get very intoxicated every
time. We usually walked home from the bars at night (too many friends
have a DWI to allow myself to drive) right across campus to get home.
Sometimes we would make a trip into the dorms for what we referred to as
"Dorm Storming." This was a feat in itself, as the dorms are locked,
and some unknowing freshman would have to let you in. We would
basically rip down dry erase boards, write really inappropriate but
funny things on the ones we left, cause general havoc, and Steal a Fire
Extinguisher as we left. We then shoot each other with them, shoot
cars, randomly spray them, and other generally stupid ways to use them.
Once we lit a hay bail on fire and put it out. Personally i am
responsible for 12, but altogether we took allot more.
We almost got in trouble for the fire extinguishers once. One night we
stole a fire extinguisher but didn't play with it for whatever reason,
instead we just stuck it in the living room. Well to make a long story
short, the next day cops show up at our house, i was arrested for MIP (i
was 21 in 2 weeks), the cop was in the living room, could see the fire
extinguisher with the Schools name on it, and said nothing.
Tampering with a fire extinguisher is big issues with the Campus, and
anyone caught would be charged $275. If no one was caught the fine
would be dispersed amongst the people who live on that floor. Some
quick math for you ... $275 x 12 = $3300. Looking at this number i do
feel bad for all those who got charged for our amusement, i remember
getting charged for other peoples damage as a freshman and it wasn't
fun.
I understand this is a fire risk, and could very well cause serious
injury or death if a fire did happen, but at 2 am we weren't thinking
all that clearly. And yes i know i cant write to well, me and commas
have issues.

the other day my flatmate asked if i'd eaten his lasagne. I didn't feel in the mood to lie so I came clean and said 'I was hungry!' which I was incidently. He demanded that I go straight to the shops and buy him a replacement. I was like 'right now?' and he was all 'yeah, now!'. So I ran to my room (coz it was getting late already) and ransacked my penny jar for all the shiny silver 5p pieces I could find. I needed to make £2.20 so in all I needed to find like 84 pennies plus some back ups in case I lost some on the way I figured. That accomplished I walked the mile or so down to the nearest shop and searched high and low for a lasagne. No luck. So in the end I had to ask the security guy coz I was getting scared that he thought I was a thief as I was acting all funny and not buying anything. Also the shop was starting to close up. He didn't know anything about lasagne so he sent me to speak to a checkout girl. She did know, so I grabbed one then queued-up all over again to buy the stupid thing. It got to my turn at last and I handed over my 84 pennies.
the end.

Hello OddtOdd,
This happened in the fall of 2005...and is a recap of a posting I'd made on
Littleblackdog.com...if you want to read everyones comments you need to sign
up and read this topic:

If you want to use the pictures, please downlaod them and host them
somewhere other than my meager web server.
The story begins.....

I like gum. Specifically, I like Extra gum. I buy the blue and greens, and
try to keep one or two packs around for my chewing enjoyment.
I bought two new packs for work. Opened 'em up this week and have had a
stick out of each.
Yesterday, I was in the mood for the "green" gum...and..I go looking on my
shelf. Where's the green gum? I see blue. Where's my green pack?
I suspect the cleaning crew has obscounded with my pack of gum.
so today..I'm just chewing the blue... I need to go stock up on green and
blue again as I only have half a pack left. Sad
Maybe it's time to use those locks on my shelves at work now to secure my
gum.

The gum is safely stashed in my desk now...
I'll bring in a webcam next week and see if I can hide it to catch
anything..

Well..as a follow-up...
I had been storing my gum in my desk drawer..and..those packs are safe.
However..yesterday. I stuck one freshly opened pack minus 1 stick of gum
back on my shelf...and today...it is gone.
Tomorrow I will be installing the camera to find out who is stealing my gum.
I can conceal the camera on another shelf behind some books. I don't think I
can have it upload images where we can all see them...but...if I catch the
theif, I'll be sure to post them up.

Camera in place...software running... new drivers that don't conflict with
work software installed :0
We shall see if I can indeed catch a thief...

I logged in to the work PC and checked to see if ConquerCam was up and
running... it was, and it has an image without errors -- so the cam lives!!!
I'll be paying a visit to the main security desk at work Monday morning....
Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:42 am
----------------------------------------
Well today is indeed a fun day at work...
Found out a few things
1) I'm not allowed to monitor my workspace without prior approval
2) I have to remove the webcam and am not allowed to use it at work.
3) They are following up with the investigation.
4) If I notice things missing in the future, report it to security
immediatley and they will aim one of their many cameras to monitor my desk.
Mon Nov 28, 2005 9:04 pm
---------------------------------------
Well...it wasn't that eventful at work.
They are "investigating" the incident, and I was asked to remove my cam.
When I get more news, I'll share it.
Wed Nov 29, 2005 9:00am
-------------------------------------
I was officially reprimanded for having a video survalliance in my cube at
work. The follow-up to the "incident" was that the cleaning person was no
longer on the site.
----
That was the last I heard of the GumThief cam caper.... I have not brought a
cam back into my work area, and have removed the software I used with that
cam as well. I don't feel like loosing my job over a pack of gum, unlike
someone else.
As I stated, you're free to use the story...and the images so long as you
have hosted them elsewhere.
Thanks!
Hope you have fun,
-Todd
